Between the 27th and 29th March 2014, twenty five Year 10 and 11 Performing Arts students participated in the Department's annual residential trip to London.

After arriving at the hotel in London's King Cross for midday, the group ventured over to Covent Garden where they enjoyed the sights and sounds, and some street theatre.

At 3pm they arrived at the Ambassadors Theatre for the phenomenal matinee performance of 'Stomp,' which was, 'A unique combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy,' and can only be described as inspirational to the students who afterwards clapped, stamped and clicked their way back to the hotel.

In the evening, the group headed over to the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane where they watched Roald Dahl's, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.' The production was a visual spectacle which incorporated amazing performances, particularly from its younger cast members, superb set and scenery and ingenious technical displays.

On Friday, the group headed off to the Warner Bros Studio Tours, Leavesden where they enjoyed an awe-inspiring tour of the studio where all the Harry Potter films were made. Set, costumes, animatronics and graphic design were all on display and all enjoyed the jaw-dropping surprise near the end of the tour. With shopping bags filled with chocolate frogs and wands, we then headed back to the hotel to get all dressed up for our delicious meal in a restaurant, followed by an evening performance of 'Wicked' at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. With the best seats in the house, the group enjoyed the story about the witches of Oz. The set, costumes, music and acting were all amazing and the inspiring and emotional performances from its stars meant that a few tears were shed.

On the final day, the group visited the Natural History Museum where they enjoyed the company of dinosaurs, experienced earthquakes and dreamt about gem stones.

The trip was a great success and a fantastic time was had by all.
