The Roman Medicine Roadshow, provided by award winning social enterprise company, Big Heritage, on Friday 17th January 2015, was much appreciated by the Year 10 GCSE History students. The event allowed Year 10 students the opportunity to have some hands on experience of Roman medical and surgical practices.

Following a brief introduction, pupils enjoyed sessions which looked at the impact of certain injuries on the human body by examining bones, including those of a gladiator. Pupils were then treated to, amongst other things, the chance to try out Roman cataract and pile surgery. The day finished with testing out the armour of Roman gladiators and it's ability to prevent injury. Mr Mackin managed to survive the beating thanks to the armour...

The understanding acquired from these practical activities will help the students to get top grades in GCSE History.
