This week at CCSC pupils in Year 11 have been learning about DNA using gummi bears and marshmallows!

As part of their Additional Science GCSE pupils have to learn about the 3D structure of DNA and all of the parts that make up this amazing chemical. Pupils in Mr Kelsall's science class created 3D models of DNA using sweets to represent this important and complicated molecule. They used them to see what DNA looks like, how the chemicals fit together like a jigsaw to create every living thing, and brought genetic engineering to life to see how you can create glow in the dark pigs and mice.

Morgan from Year 11 said, "My model was brilliant and we joined them all together to make a massive one. It helped me learn how the middle bases join together and I got to use scissors to try out genetic engineering. Who doesn't like sweets?"

Mr Kelsall also found the hardest part of the lesson was not eating the sweets. All models are now missing.
