Chesterton Community Sports College and the local Primary Schools presented 'A Concert in Honour of Our Queen’ on 18th November. The sell out concert featured music, readings and drama and honoured the life and times of our Monarch.

There was an air of eager anticipation in the packed school hall as the high school band took to the stage to open the concert with  ‘Land of Hope and Glory'. This was followed by a reading from the Coronation Speech.

The patriotic theme was then taken back to the 1950s with a performance by Chesterton Community Sports College choir who sang ‘Que Sera Sera’ followed shortly by ‘Rock Around The Clock’. This was cleverly accompanied by the GCSE Dance students who complemented the music on stage with their dancing talents.

St Chad’s C of E School took to the stage to perform their version of the 1960s song ‘When I’m 64’ which had the audience wanting to sing along! The pupils beamed with pride as they sang.

The concert items were interspersed with speeches (written by Miss Owen) from Jacob Walton and Hannah Brayford who narrated the Queen’s life and times.

The 1970s was depicted through a drama performance in the style of a street party. The humorous acting skills of the high school students had the audience laughing as many reminisced and gathered memories of times gone by.

This performance was followed by an emotional choice of song from Crackley Bank Primary School. ‘Imagine’ was introduced through a heart warming link to the conflict in Paris. As the pupils sang, they used sign language along with their singing resulting in a very moving few moments.

Chesterton Primary School moved the decade forward and chose an uplifting song from the 1980s. ‘Walking on Sunshine’ was performed with pride as images of our Queen were projected in the background.

Sun Academy Bradwell chose to do a 90s Medley to celebrate their chosen decade. The pupils performed a lighthearted ‘Sing Off’ with the girls singing hits from girls bands from the decade. The boys, wanting a competition, sang their hearts out with songs by Oasis and Blur.

The high school pupils then continued the performances with a hit from the millennium. The senior choir sang ‘Chasing Cars’ beautifully in an acapella style. Solos from Isaac Liddle and Hannah Brayford, led the choir into a moving section of the concert.

Churchfields Primary School performed a song from present day. ‘A Thousand Years’ was a beautiful end to the individual primary performances.

The evening concluded with a rousing performance of ’There’ll Always Be An England' by the massed choirs of Churchfields Primary, Chesterton Primary, Sun Academy Bradwell, Crackley Bank Primary, St Chad's Primary and CCSC. In the final verses the 350 strong audience also joined in with a chorus that raised the roof. The musical items were directed by Head of Performing Arts, Ms K Flavell, and the school band played brilliantly throughout the show.

In the foyer there was an exhibition of Churchfields artworks depicting images of our Queen.

Mrs S Waterhouse, Assistant Headteacher, said: "The concert was fantastic! It was a celebration that brought the community together in honour of our Queen and our Country".
