Pupils enjoyed a bespoke post-16 experience courtesy of Keele University. They kindly offered to put on English Literature sessions that gravitated towards the focuses of the forthcoming GCSE English Literature exams. This was a crucial opportunity for Year 10 pupils who will be sitting these exams in a matter of months. The Year 9 pupils also benefited hugely from the day; they had the chance to be exposed to the Literature texts in preparation for the forthcoming GCSE year. 

 

The group began the day with a campus tour, led by two current Keele students. As part of the tour, students discovered about life on a campus-style university and witnessed university lifestyle first-hand. Following on from this, the students were provided with a breakdown of how English is taught in the different degree pathways and how English generally plays a vital role in day-to-day life. 

 

As the pictures show, the pupils experienced sessions that replicate the seminar set-up used in university teaching. They studied aspects of ‘Macbeth’ and ‘A Christmas Carol’ in close detail and participated in direct discussions with the lecturers who took part in the day.
