On Platform One of Paddington Station in London there is a statue of an unknown soldier; he is reading a letter.

WWIMEMORIALunknownsoldierHistory pupils from all years have taken part in a national project which aims to create a memorial to the unknown soldiers who died in the First World War. As part of the one hundred year anniversary of the start of the Great War, these pupils have all written a letter to this statue which represents the thousands of men who fought in the war but now lie in unmarked graves, as unknown soldiers.

Seven pupils have been selected to have their letters published as part of this online memorial.

Their letters have been selected because they have brought life to long gone stories and recognised the significance of the men that they are writing to.

They can be accessed through the project's website: http://www.1418now.org.uk/letter/  1418screenshot

The Letters will eventually be kept in the British Library.

A copy of the 7 letters can also be seen here.

Well done to the the students that took part in this project.
