As part of Creative Learning Week, Mrs Rowley and Mr Young led the activities titled ‘Going Places’. The students involved experienced some exciting forms of transport whilst learning the history behind it.

To start the week, we travelled to the Coventry Transport Museum. Coventry is the birthplace of the British cycle and motor industry. Whilst there we discovered the fascinating story behind the development of road transport from the earliest cycles to the fastest cars on earth. Some of the bravest students even experienced what it is like inside the fastest vehicle on land, the ‘Thrust’, in a simulator.

On the second day, we experienced historic air transport at RAF Cosford. Whilst there students took part in the interactive section of the museum where they learned the science behind aerodynamics. We also took part in a 4D cinema experience of a flight, which had even the bravest students holding on tight!

Llangollen Steam Railway was the destination in the middle of the week. We experienced travel on a steam train as we made our way from Llangollen to Carrog Station and back. Before returning to Llangollen, we enjoyed a picnic in the picturesque countryside near the station.

On Thursday, although the weather wasn’t brilliant, staff and students climbed aboard the open top tour bus for a tourist view of Liverpool. We saw the birth place of the Beatles in all its glory and enjoyed a picnic at the Albert Dock area. We also managed to sneak a visit to see the Everton and Liverpool stadiums on the way home.

On the final day of Creative Learning Week, we made our shortest journey of the week to Apedale. Here we explored the museum and learned about what life was like for the miners and their families. After a snack from the café, we then put our hard hats on and went down the mine to listen to an interesting talk from an ex-miner.

We had an excellent week and had lots of new experiences. Mr Young and Mrs Rowley hope to see as many students enjoy the activities next year.
