RMS leaders and Health and Social Care students took part in a Dementia Friends session on Tuesday 17th November, organised by Miss Owen and Miss Grocott.

Friends Information Sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, who are trained and supported by the Alzheimer’s Society. This session has helped students learn more about dementia and how you can help to create dementia friendly communities.

After the Dementia Friends Information Session students told us about how they are going to turn their understanding of dementia into a practical action. They don't have to commit to doing something time-consuming.  Every action counts.

Some of the Dementia Friends actions included:

  • Talking with someone I know living with dementia
  • Wearing my badge
  • Telling 5 friends about the Dementia Friends initiative
  • Be more patient when out in my community
  • Visit Chesterton lodge care home and talk to those suffering from dementia

As a result of the session Chesterton Community Sports College now has 50 Dementia Friends out in the local community. Some students are already talking about the programme to friends and we hope this will encourage more students to sign up. The Dementia Friends in our school community can be identified from their Dementia Friends badge.
