At CCSC, we believe Performing Arts offers our students the chance to express themselves effectively whilst learning in a creative environment. It is a way of communicating different thoughts and feelings, developing confidence and self-esteem, improving self-expression and embracing individuality.
We believe that innate talent in performing arts subjects should not be a pre-requisite for enjoyment and we hope to encourage students to value their creative experiences at whatever level is appropriate to them. Throughout Music, Drama and Dance lessons we hope to contribute to students spiritual, cultural and moral development by using a variety of stimuli, from different places and times and by covering numerous themes and issues.
The Performing Arts department includes a large Music room with an interactive whiteboard, Apple TV and Apple Mac computers. There are also two music practice rooms where the peripatetic teachers offer tuition in a range of instruments including piano, brass, woodwind, percussion, guitar, voice and strings. There is a Dance Studio for dance practical lessons and the school hall is used for drama lessons and rehearsals. We also have access to lighting, sound and staging in the main school hall where performances take place on the proscenium arch stage.
The department offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and has a rich history of staging school concerts and whole-school productions, our most recent being the fabulous ‘Sister Act.’ We have also hosted incredibly successful Primary School Variety Shows for the last two years which have included several of our local feeder schools and we host an annual GCSE Music Ensemble Evening.
Our enrichment programme is also very strong and we organise several theatre trips each year including a residential trip to London for GCSE Students. These are always extremely popular and a very positive learning experience.
