The MFL department continues to grow in strength and size and is one of the school's core subjects. Our most recent set of GCSE results (2022), were excellent and we achieved excellent results.

All pupils begin to study Spanish in Year 7 and in Year 8, pupils can now choose from 3 language options to study alongside Spanish. Our languages include: Italian, French & German.

Department staff are extremely hardworking and offer extra time with pupils at lunch time, and after school, to ensure pupils approach their GCSE and all their MFL studies with confidence, to ensure success, and help ALL pupils be the best they can be. We are all well qualified, specialist teachers, who plan varied, interesting and rigorous lessons to ensure maximum interest and progress from all pupils.

The MFL department occupies an attractive suite of rooms above the school entrance, including private space for speaking practise and one to one support. The whole department is light and airy and all areas have brand new and attractive displays to encourage learning at every opportunity.

The MFL department believes firmly in enrichment and offers regular trips abroad. The most recent, prior to lockdown, was a trip to Seville, Spain, where we took a group of around 40 pupils from Years 7 to 10. During the trip we were able to offer pupils a wide range of activities including a walking exploration of the city, a guided tour of the Royal Alcázar Palace, a visit to Seville Cathedral and a fun day out at the ‘Isla Mágica’ theme park. We are planning to run another trip to Seville this year.

Other trips over recent years have included visits to Naples in conjunction with the Humanities department and other destinations including Paris, Barcelona, Belgium and the Normandy Region of France.

We are planning to run another trip to Seville this year. Be replaced by Next Year we are taking a group of pupils to Madrid for four days during Creative Learning Week.
