How do Glaciers Move?

100 2282Year 7 students have been learning about the extreme environments of polar regions. In a recent lesson, the students conducted an experiment to research factors that affected glacial flow. The students put pressure on to ice blocks (to act as a gravitational pull) for 5 mins.

They recorded the findings and repeated the experiment using sandpaper to mimic a rocky mountain that would cause lots of abrasion on the ice.

The students got cold fingers but enjoyed learning about glacial flow in this creative way.
