Geography Controlled Assessment visit to Albert Dock, Liverpool.

liverpool2013bRecently 70 GCSE students travelled to the Albert Dock area of Liverpool to complete necessary data collection for their Controlled Assessment piece of work which is worth 25% of their final GCSE grade.

Students had to collect primary data from around the area to test the positive and negative impact that tourists have on the environment.

liverpool2013aWhilst collecting data on pedestrian and traffic counts, land use and measuring the quality of the environment students were absorbing the tourist attractions to understand why it is a popular place to visit. The Albert Dock is bursting with culture, creativity and heritage and boasts some of the best tourist attractions in the UK in one picturesque, waterfront destination. It is certainly an area that has provided the students with plenty to write about.

Luckily, the sun was shining and the students managed to collect plentiful data that will be analysed back in school.

History Controlled Assessment visit to Conwy Castle.

conwy2013aLast month Year 10 GCSE History students travelled to Conwy to experience first-hand the spectacular castle which they will write about in their controlled assessment (worth 25% of their final GCSE grade). Conwy, which was constructed by the English monarch Edward I between 1283 and 1289 as one of the key fortresses in his 'iron ring' of castles to contain the Welsh, is an excellent site for the students to study.

conwy2013bThe students spent the morning walking around its circuit of walls, which are over ¾ mile long and guarded by 22 towers. They saw Conwy from all angles and analysed the site and situation of the Castle. After enjoying lunch on the sea front, the students then walked around the castle itself and identified key features that they have been learning about in school.

A wonderful day was had by all and students are now fully prepared to complete their assessment back in school.
