Following the success of our first Year 10 & 11 Revision and Career’s evening last year, it seems that this year’s was just as, if not more, successful!  Chesterton Community Sports College welcomed an overwhelming number of students and parents on Wednesday 2nd November, eager to learn about their post-16 options and how to succeed at GCSE.

Many colleges, providers and local companies were based around the school to offer advice and guidance to pupils (and their parents) on an individual basis. Some students were even introduced to different ideas and routes that they were previously unaware of, all through talking with the training advisors. Lots of students equally had the opportunity to personally speak  with our careers advisor, Mark Stubbs, again to offer support and clarity to their individual needs.

Elsewhere, a number of staff were also based around the school offering essential workshops and presentations. Mrs Melvin and Miss Durrant hosted an English workshop where parents were offered information on what their child will be examined on and pupils were given guidance on how to prepare for these exams. Mr Mackin led an insightful presentation based on ‘Life at University’ (the good, bad and the ugly!), whilst Mr Kelsall was on hand in the Computing room to help support students applying for colleges and writing CVs. Finally, in the library our teaching and learning mentors, Miss Moscati and Miss Torr, were present to assist with revision techniques and ideas along with planning useful revision timetables – a vital skill with the Year 11 mock exams fast approaching. They were also selling invaluable revision textbooks and workbooks for core subjects.

Overall, the evening was overwhelmingly positive, with great feedback from parents, students and the training providers alike. As staff, we really enjoy this event as we are able to see both students and parents become excited for post-16 life and the opportunities to come. Here’s to next year!
