Some of the Year 7 maths groups have been learning the basics of algebra over the last few weeks.

They have focused on how to use the correct algebraic notation so that everyone understands what is meant by the symbols. The pupils have learnt how to manipulate algebraic terms, collect like terms and multiply out brackets. Whilst doing this topic they have also had the chance to revise using negative numbers.

Many of the Year 7 pupils enjoyed using the mini whiteboards to work out the answers and this strategy helped them to quickly gain confidence with the topic.

Towards the end of the unit of work, two of the maths groups played a game of 'Maths Monopoly' and really enjoyed the challenge of using their newly acquired learning to answer the questions and move around the game board.
